A tedious hour and a half long single take, but like the museum in which its set, "Russian Ark" is hard not to admire.

I wanted to see it at the cinema because of the praise, but I couldnt. So, I just bought it without seeing it. Wich is not something that I do often. I didn't regret. The only thing you need for watching is patience. It has not action at all, but the only fact that is filmed in shot, worth the effort. Awesome!

Our Daily Free Stream: Alexander Sokurov - Russian Ark (engl. subt.). Jede Rezension von Russian Ark beginnt mit Sokurovs Methode, diesen Wahnsinn inszenieren (oder sollte man präzisieren: begleiten) zu können: Drei Jahrhunderte russischer Geschichte in der Eremitage. 96 Minuten ohne Schnitt, gedreht in einer einzigen kontinuierlichen, digitalen Steadycam-Aufnahme vom Kameramann Tillmann Büttner. Durch den "One Take" wird es möglich, in einem Fluss zu erzählen, so dass wir uns unwillkürlich mit der Stimme aus dem Off identifizieren. Das Handeln der auftretenden Figuren verliert sich dagegen meist in Andeutungen. Es ist auch schlicht unmöglich, alle auftretenden Gestalten (in Originalkostümen) zuzuordnen: Peter, der Grosse, Zar Nikolaus, Katharina... Wie ein Fragment werden hier …
