The only saving grace is going to be if international numbers can save it from being a complete disaster. One thing's for certain - it's not going to spawn any franchise. I haven't seen this yet, but I've relegated it to Netflix status rather than a theater-worthy experience.

A total embarassment for everyone involved

I can sleep well tonight, now that the project is back on track with a lowered budget. Seriously, though, I'm glad the big issues were worked through and the project was not shelved.

I forgot about Pirates. So one success in the last 10 years? Maybe a studio with more adult success will pick it up, that will be my hope.

Disney took a chance with the Pirates films, and they turned out just fine. Even if they are afraid westerns don't have as much appeal, it seems like the wrong move. I have a feeling it will be picked up.

True. But when was the last good live action movie from Disney? I loved Tron Legacy but you can hardly count that as typical Disney subject matter. All of the rest for the last 10 years have sucked anyway.

This is sad news, as I had my eye on this for a while now. Disney still does not trust that Depp has a built-in audience that will follow him anywhere and everywhere.

I saw that. Kind of disappointing. Maybe Miramax or someone associated/owned by Disney will pick it up.

Looks like Hollywood golden boy Johnny Depp might not be able to save this one:http://www.hitfix.com/art icles/shocker-disney-shut s-down-production-on-the- lone-ranger-with-johnny-d eppMaybe another studio will pick this up, but it's kind of up in the air at this point.
