Movie Talk Posts

This movie has been in development hell since, well, probably since I first read this book back in 2000. I got into this a lot later than most people (while I was in college) and can see why it's been such a hot property.Although the March 2013 release date is a ways off, initial casting for the lead roles look promising. Hugo's Asa Butterfield has been cast as Ender and, hopefully this comes to pass, Hailee Steinfeld (who was amazing in her breakout role in True Grit) is up for Petra. There was also talks about Harrison Ford playing Col. Graff, but that is of yet unconfirmed. For those not in the know, Ender's Game is about a group of gifted children sent to a space station in order to train both minds and bodies in order to prevent an alien invasion that could wipe out the Earth. These children are pitted against one another, and while the initial challenges seem easy, as it goes on the training gets much more complex and the pressure continues to build - for a book aimed at teens, it really has some excellent character development and a much deeper story than what is presented on the surface. If done right, this should be a sure-fire hit, but adapting literary material - especially popular series - is dangerous. Harry Potter may have been a smash, but then you have something like Golden Compass or His Dark Materials, which failed.I'll have a while to wait, but I'm going to be keeping a close watch on how this develops.
