While visually fun, Mary and the Witch's Flower plays 2/3 of the way through and doesn't know where to go from there. The opening scene is thrilling, drawing you in, and then we are transported to the leisurely, atmospheric English countryside, waiting for the pace to pick up again. Unfortunately, the film never recaptures the energy from the beginning, and the great cast of characters also remains in limbo, never becoming more fleshed out & realized, though a great potential for this is there.
