Epic, Grand, But Not Great

Though I have not read the book, it is safe to say that this movie is unique. This movie is epic, but yet this movie is not great. The directors did a good job of combining several different stories into one, so why is this not an incredible movie?
There is simply too much going on. Too many stories, too much time, not enough interest and the list goes on. The acting is fine, the movie looks incredible and there is some really good suspenseful moments. I understand what the movie means and I understand the purpose. It wasn't too preachy and it had me hooked most of the time.
If it was me and I was directing it, I would have only focused on 3 or maybe 4 of the stories. The rest are usefulness and only add more confusion. Also, it is simply too long, even for all of the stories. The suspense didn't build well enough at times and there were too many details. The Wachowski's should have looked at inception for how to build suspense across multiple stories.
This movie is exactly what I expected. Though I know the Wachoski's will never make another Matrix, I still have hope that they will again make a 4 star movie, just not this movie.
