[update] I saw this movie again - same opinion. Too many characters disappear and not enough explained. Just because the flow is different than a typical movie does not make it great. I expected more the second time and it was worse.

The film couldn't have ended any other way. The Coens are exploring the nature of violence, why it happens to some people, why some live and some die. Chigurh never gets caught because random events always happen and there is no way to stop them. Bell realizes that he can't catch all the bad guys and that death is always just one unlucky break away. Yet he can't just settle into retirement as the final interaction with his wife makes clear. It's a life moment. And the film ends on it to show …

Replying to your comment on my review for No Country for Old Men...
First of all, the money isn't important. It's clear the Coens don't care who ends up with it and neither should we. This is shown by the fact that Llewelyn is shot off screen we just see people leaving. So the Mexicans driving off may have got it, or perhaps Chigurh got it given the vent was open with a coin...it doesn't matter.
Also, TLJ does have a resolved ending. In the beginning of the movie you hear his voice …
