After watching the trailers for this movie, I had no intention of seeing it, but, when I heard all the hype surrounding the internet, I knew I needed to check it out.

Being a huge sci fi fan, I was excited to see people calling it a masterpiece. What I got, came up a little short, but still proved to be one of the better movies in 2006. Clive Owen does a pretty fine job acting and looking dirty and Michael Caine as always was perfect.

The problem that I have with this movie even before I saw it was "What do I care about the first pregnant women in nearly 20 years?" I assumed that by watching this movie I would care a little more. Nope, I didn't. Not only did I not care more, but the story never explained why there were no more pregnancies? Why the world really went to ****. Yeah, there is chaos, and fighting, and Britain is the only real government left. Also, many of you may be disappointed by the ending.

As you can see, I still thoroughly enjoyed the film. The music and the dialog was good and the cinematography was nearly perfect. There were several long camera shots in which there appeared to be no cuts. Cuaron and his A.C.E. did great job in accomplishing this.

All of the war/riot scenes were of perfection and reminded me of some of the Omaha Beech scenes in "Saving Private Ryan." In my opinion Cuaron's next picture should be a full out war movie.

If you have an open mind, see this one in the theater before it's too late.

Children of Men Review comment

The extended shots were awesome. Michael Caine dominated, but has he really been so automatic? I can think of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the Quiet American, but his work with Christopher Nolan hasn't really been anything to speak of, wouldn't you say? Lastly, I feel that the hype for this film hurt it in my eyes: this generation's Blade Runner carries a huge weight with me and this did not deliver on anything but really long camera shots with no cuts.
