Reacher does not reach perfection

Jack Reacher
Directed by Chrsitopher McQuarrie
Starring Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike

A serious mismatch here! Tom Cruise plays the smart and intelligent detective with a military past. The problem here, is the plot. A basic wafer thin plot, intentionally complicated to lose your heads out. Reacher is choked with plenty of dialogs and one who sits and patiently listens to it might feel slightly disappointed. McQuarrie’s direction lacks energy. Cruise never looked Jack Reacher. It is really hard to digest a MI series hero, into a role with plenty of dialogs, less punches (few may be) and shoot outs in a B grade style. I probably think Cruise was picked, to save the film from failure. Even Cruise can’t save the film here. The plot and writing lacks compulsion. It looks a tiresome 120 minute drama with interpretations ending without perfect conclusion.
Is the time of detective stories gone for now! A suspense thriller intentionally screwed up. What’s the big mistake in this? McQuarrie shows us the killer right at the start. So, what’s the point of suspense? Misinterpretation and demanding presence of Cruise can’t save Reacher. No sequel I hope. When Cruise steals cars from everyone, whoever he meets, it looks like a wry humor. The action set pieces in the film, whether the initial shoot outs, a hefty and tiresome car chase or the climactic shoot outs, it wrecks my patience. I never felt anywhere in the film, where there was something to get brownie points. If I am so desperate, then probably Cruise will earn points for acting, but not for playing Reacher. No reaching anywhere! Sorry folks!
