I'm a big fan of monster movies....especially anything involving werewolves.
This is a great take of the werewolf genre; playing off of it and turning lycanthropy into an STD-styled disease. A very good original idea (I'm not surprised it isn't an American film because we all know for some reason this country can't seem to make a lot of good original movies; especially horror....we can only remake ones from other countries.) So, as much flak as Canada gets, they know how to do their movie productions.
I enjoyed the cast. Mimi Rogers seemed a little out of place in my opinion. The two sisters; played by Emily Perkins and Katherine Isabelle, did a stand out job with their roles. Emily particularly takes the award for strongest performance.
It's difficult for me to break down things I did and didn't like about the movie because it integrated old werewolf folklore with new ideas incredibly well. I have no negative words.
And it spawned 2 other movies: Ginger Snaps Back; a story following the first movie as we now follow Bridgette as her story continues. And Ginger Snaps: The Beginning; a prequel period piece very parallel to the first one but with more wolves and some really great camera shots (mad kudos to the DP on this one).
