A Must See Blockbuster

A great continuation of the Marvel comic saga, and a solid fantasy/science fiction movie in its own right, "Thor: The Dark World" is as much fun as the highly entertaining first "Thor" movie. The special effects and all other technical credits are outstanding. Be sure to see the movie in 3D, as it is extremely well done. Alan Taylor brings a bit of grit to the movie, but don't expect "Game Of Thrones" here. This is still a fun Marvel superhero movie, so there is plenty of humor. Maybe too much in fact as the humor is sometimes over the top. The movie also features several terrific action set-pieces, the best coming in the middle of the movie when Malekith, the Dark Elf, leads a full out attack on Asgard. This is a fantastic sequence, and the final climax back on Earth in London while good, is not as exciting. Despite the naysayers, I really enjoyed Christopher Eccelston as Malekith, and thought he made a fine villain. Chris Hemsworth remains the perfect Thor, Anthony Hopkins is outstanding as always as Odin, and Tom Hiddleston nearly steals the show once again as Loki. The weaker part of the movie deals with the "mortals" from Earth. Natalie Portman is OK as Thor's love interest, but Stellan Skarsgard's Erik Selvig has been written as a stereotyped nutty professor here. He was far more effective in the first "Thor" when he was not completely bonkers. Overall, this is a must see for Marvel fans and for fantasy/science fiction fans as well.
