While Reagan is a bit episodic and takes a good hour to pick up steam, the last hour is excellent, especially the section chronicling Reagan’s show down with the U.S.S.R. Dennis Quaid hits all the right notes in the title role and Penelope Ann Miller is a terrific Nancy Reagan. The movie ends on an emotionally powerful note dealing with Reagan’s Alzheimer’s, and deftly strikes a fine balance between Reagan’s personal life and his achievements both as an actor and politician.
