A Nightmare On Elm Street has a very strong premise for a horror film; a monster which attacks you while you sleep, something that you can never avoid and when you are at your most vulnerable. In the right hands, it could've been fantastic but Wes Craven really is a terrible director and it inspired a host of truly appalling sequels.
