A Canadian writer visits an Indian immigrant who recounts the tall tale of when he was ship wrecked with only a Bengal Tiger for company. Directed as it was by Ang Lee, I was expecting Life Of Pi to be a visual feast and I was not disappointed on that score; there are some truly gorgeous images on display and it is this eye boggling splendour that is the film's strongest suit. The format is very reminiscent of a Jean Jeunet film, told in flashback with many visual devices to draw you into the story. The plot itself is actually rather thin; much of the film takes place within the confines of a single lifeboat and considering the fact that there's only one human character involved, this makes for some rather sparse dialogue. Suraj Sharma and Irfan Khan make for an engaging protagonist however and the big reveal at the end is successful at making you rethink the entire film. I can't help the feeling that it lacked the kind of emotional drama and impact that really involves you in a story but visually at least, Life Of Pi is a thing of beauty.
