Selene (Kate Beckinsale) resplendent in her skin tight leather attire is a Death Dealer for the Vampires assigned to hunt down and destroy the last of the werewolves (referred to as Lycans) in an attempt to exact vengeance for the murder of her mortal family centuries ago. After discovering the werewolves using bullets capable of killing her fellow vampires, Selene returns to her coven and tells her leader Kraven (Shane Brolly) the grim news. So, the Vampires invent something deadlier, bullets with silver nitrate solution in them. But this is only the beginning. It soon turns out that Lycan Warlord Lucien (Michael Sheen) lives and is pursuing a human (Scott Speedman) who holds some kind of key to ending the ancient feud between the two immortal enemies.
Soon, Selene finds herself battling the Lycans as well as disbelief among her own kind, especially after she falls for the ruggedly handsome human whom unfortunately for her will soon transform into the one thing she loathes, a werewolf. The visual aspect of the film was great. I loved how the dark in the film contrasted with the pale skin of the vampires. Kate Beckinsale is sexy yet tough as nails as the female lead while Bill Nighy stands out as Viktor, one of the eldest vampires who is in hibernation awaiting his time to rule until Selene resurrects him to gain his support against Kraven.
If you like dark, violent and gothic like movies you are sure to enjoy this one. Plus Selena is one cool Vampire chick.
