The story is about a 9 year old autistic kid named Simon (played by Miko Hughes) who has cracked a government super-code that was placed deep within a puzzle in a `geek's puzzle magazine' to test its durability. Simon manages to decipher and call the secret phone number but then all hell breaks loose. Because of his ability, the NSA has to get rid of him. He's a danger for the national security so he has to die.
A hit-man is send to his house, his parents get killed, but the kid survives. Of course NSA doesn't take into account that a crazy, ex-undercover FBI agent Art (Bruce Willis) will be assigned to the case when the boy cannot be found. Art eventually finds the child in the back of his closet, and takes him to the hospital. Now he will do everything to save and protect the kid. Alec Baldwin plays a man who heads up a top secret branch of the government who will stop at nothing to protect his code.
I found Bruce Willis' portrayal of the FBI agent to be both tough and tender. He was tenacious in his refusal to give up in his protection of Simon regardless of danger to himself. His tear-jerking tenderness towards that autistic little boy is enough to melt your heart and it certainly melted mine. The story is compelling enough and Bruce is always fun to watch.
