Anyone who has seen the previous two movies know that Men in Black is the state's secret police who handle extraterrestrial beings and are responsible for the public to stay ignorant of the existence of extraterrestrial visitors to Earth. Therefore when intergalactic criminal Boris the Animal (last surviving member of the predatory Boglodyte race) escapes from a maximum security prison located on the moon it is up to Agent J going back to the past to save his taciturn partner, Agent K, from being killed by Boris who is intent on killing The Agent who shot off his arm and captured him. With only 24 hours to stop Boris, J arrives a day before Boris kills K. He ends up back in 1969 where he runs into a younger version of K (Josh Brolin) and together they try to stop Boris once and for all in order to save the planet once again. Along the way he finds out secrets of the universe that were meant to be kept for a reason.
I am used to Will Smith doing his tongue in cheek humor but in this movie (MIB3) although he had some good laughs it seems like to have been toned down quite a bit to my immense disappointment. On the positive side Josh Brolin shines as a young Agent K easily stealing every scene he was in all the way down to the voice, mannerisms, looks and even the lovable bickering between J and K. Jemaine Clement plays a great Boris the Animal, very threatening and scary and his makeup is excellent.
"SPOILER ALERT” There's no Rip Torn this time, because his character, Agent Zed, had unfortunately passed away. This resulted in a pretty funny scene where K delivers the eulogy in a rather nonchalant fashion. Zed's duties were passed over to Emma Thompson (her name? O, of course. Get it? O and K?); and Alice Eve plays the 1969 version of O as well. Michael Stuhlbarg is funny, intriguing and touching as the alien with precognitive powers having some really funny moments with his powers and his dry delivery. Also starring Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussy Cat Dolls as Lily, Boris' girlfriend who has the dubious honor of having the menacing Boris sticking his ~shudder~ tongue down her throat.
There are as many hi-tech blasters as you would expect, and there are also some great high-speed vehicle chases. A little disappointed that the little red button was never pushed, but I digress. Men in Black III managed to keep me very entertained from the beginning to the end and it surprisingly, has an emotional ending. It is nice to connect the dots on some unexplained events and behaviors and you learn why you should never flush a goldfish you won at a carnival down a toilet.
