18 year old Danny Mitchell (William Ash) plays on the football team at the all-boys Catholic school he attends in West Belfast. The players Danny most admires are South Americans, such as Pele who he feels have a special rhythm and flexibility. Wanting to add some of these qualities to his own game, Danny has an idea: he'll take Samba and Mambo lessons, in the hope of improving his game.
To the surprise of himself and his friends, Danny turns out to be a pretty good Latin dancer. He meets a spoiled teen in his dance class, Lucy McLoughlin (Keri Russell) who yearns to prove her worth to her entrepreneur father Sid, (Brian Cox) and to herself. She has her heart set on winning the Regional Latin Dance Finals. Her dance partner is her possessive handsome and wealthy boyfriend Oliver Parr, who's also captain of the football team who is a fierce competitor of Danny's team. Danny steps in when her boyfriend is injured, and soon he's falling for his stuck-up partner. It’s formulaic but Ash is such a charmer you don’t mind.
