"Kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri!"

Miike shows an uncharacteristic restraint here that he would do well to adopt more consistently. This film is nearly perfect, slowly, languidly building up a lonely widower's infatuation with a beautiful, gamine young lady, dropping in hints of madness, and then going for the jugular in the final half hour. The performances are quite good, nicely understated and wholly believable. While some might find the dreamlike beginning to be a bit slow-moving, it perfectly sets up the films latter stages, as the protagonist's misbegotten romantic efforts give way to horror. This is the feminist critique and cautionary sexual tale that Fatal Attraction wanted to be. Highly recommended.
