A vivid painting of the painter
goodfellamike - wrote on 10/27/08
The dialogue is made up of letters written from Van Gogh to his brother, Theo, and are simply read by John Hurt, who expresses the painter's passion, idealism, frustration and discipline vividly; intriguing look at Van Gogh's tumultuous life while glimpsing his classic paintings and carefully observing the places Van Gogh used for inspiration. Not merely a documentary, but an exploration and a celebration of the then underappreciated artistic genius. Final Grade: B+
