There's plenty wrong with Pain & Gain - it's uneven, way too long, stylishly bloated, and chock full of typical Michael Bay antics - but it's easy to enjoy, and it stands as one of Bay's strongest and most ambitious films. Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie deliver memorable performances as three jackass criminals, who are well realized and often funny as hell. Had Pain & Gain been cut 25 minutes and directed by someone other than Bay, we'd be looking at a great film. However, I still had some fun with Bay's stylistic approach to the material, even if it does wear out its welcome. 2.5/4
