Me, Myself & Irene

Funny but Incoherent

Me, Myself, and Irene is film with occasional moments of comedic gold. It features a vintage performance from Jim Carrey as the Rhode Island state trooper who with two distinct personalities: Charlie Baileygates and Hank Evans. Carrey's aptitude for physical comedy is frequently on display as the battle between his personalities rages throughout the film. Renee Zellweger is likable in her role as Irene Waters, although this is hardly the vehicle to showcase her immense acting talents. Chris Cooper puts in a decent performance as a crooked cop, and Anthony Anderson, Mongo Brownlee, and Jerod Mixon are a hoot as the three genius (adopted) sons of Charlie.

However, the film's plot is very thin and there are occasional funny moments with long periods of dullness and boredom in between. The relationship between Irene and Dickie (Daniel Greene) isn't explained in any detail, which could have shed some light on the plot. While the film is somewhat entertaining, I would not recommend it based on its weak screenplay and lack of cohesive structure.
