Long live Dracula, in any year!

A complete surprise! Everything I had heard and read about "Dracula A.D. 1972" made me dread watching it. But I'll be darned; it was as good as (if not better) than the other Hammer Dracula sequels.
First of all, it had a terrific opening. Jumping ahead in time after Drac has been once again resurrected, he does final battle with arch nemesis Van Helsing. Yea! Peter Cushing is back. The fast-paced, exciting climax at the beginning of the movie sets the tone for what follows.
I guess that it's so good, an abrupt jump ahead even further into 1972 isn't quite as jarring. The whole goings on are not nearly as "psychadelic" as I thought they would be. In fact, the '70's filmmaking style was more noticable two movies ago ("Taste the Blood of Dracula").
I found this one to have a clever story and more of a purpose for Drac, although his rebirth was a variation of "Taste". There's nothing out of place with the Count in "modern" times; in fact, some scenes are better staged and more effective because of it.
I just found it to be a lot of fun!
Skin Rating = .5 (out of 5). Only a brief glimpse of a happy trail as a young hottie raises his arms. But Johnny Alucard (Christopher Neame) is this movie's official Hammer Hottie! He's a sexy young devil, to say the least, who can bite me anytime!
