The Driver (1978)

"Drive" 33 years earlier without trendy music...

The original "Drive" without the flash of Risky Business or Thief, and one of the more overlooked classic films from Walter Hill. People who cried about Drive not having a ton of car chases, wrecks, and realistic looking action where you wonder how many stuntmen did not die during filming; check out this film.

It's obviously a western inspired film since the Driver is only known as the Driver... sound familiar? He also doesn't like guns, and is known as the best getaway driver. Plus... the deadliest. The posters for this movie are also great. I never knew Ryan O'Neal since I wasn't born when he was an icon or sex symbol. And so far he was great in Barry Lyndon(a bit awkward at times), and OWNED The Driver far before Ryan Gosling existed. His style was simplistic(dress shirt 3 or 4 buttons undone, shades when it's day time, and of course, a sport coat. Just like in Drive, money isn't what this guy is after, and his backstory isn't told. You can tell he's a messed up guy who is a borderline psychopath with a code. Everyone should see this film but don't expect Tangerine Dream or a wannabe score to sound like something they did... it's very stripped down. It's all about the attitude, car chases, and Bruce Dern's hilarious taunts(cowboy, desperado, etc...)

He drinks alone, listens to a sad lil radio playing horrible country music, and waits for his next game.
