The Bank Job

A cool fun heist flick, that kicks it up a notch

The Bank Job was kind of like a darker and English version of The Italian Job. This had some excellent film-making with the tone of the movie completely held throughout its length. It's cheeky, "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch". It has all of the ins and outs of a simple, yet complicated heist movie. But, this is based on a true story. And the heist actually takes place about halfway into the film. So, the rest of the film, is about the aftermath and consequences as they try to keep their loot. It's a fast-paced film that isn't obsessed with action, rather then the high tensions that the characters gather as they commit this crazy crime. Excellent acting to fit great direction makes this a winner.
Jason Statham plays Terry, a family man, with a slightly troubled past, who now owns a small car dealership. He has some trouble with local gangsters who helped him set-up his business, and cannot find a way to get out of debt. When an old love interest comes to town, and makes a proposition, he finds it insane, but is convinced easily enough. Terry and a small crew of his old friends start working on the heist. Their plan is to dig a tunnel from a neighboring building, and dig up into the bank's safety deposit box room. Unfortunately for them, there are many pictures of the Royal Family in compromising positions owned by many different people in those boxes. They soon have to deal with MI6, local pornographers, and the english black radical, Michael X. All of them are hunting the heist team, and Terry and his friends have to try to hide and work out deals with everybody. The movie can be a bit confusing, but the end definitely brings everything together. The Bank Job is one of the best films you can see in a theater right now!!
