Run of the mill alien invasion (imagine that).
Goldblum trademark "manic" is strained to breaking point.
He has a very unlikely ex-wife in a very unlikely job.
He has a comedy sidekick that is just plain tedious.
He takes his Dad along to be horrified every couple of minutes by his son's actions.
Explosions are loud and colourful.
Will Smith is a badass that kicks a lot of alien butt with all the character depth of the sheet of A4 the plot must have come on.
