Good, but could've been a masterpiece

The Happening is about a family on the run after a natural phenomenon takes over much of the east coast. Shyamalan creates a suspense driven atmosphere with his latest film. Some terrifying random suicide scenes and endless on-the-edge moments elevate the film to a whole other level. Likewise to Hitchcock's The Birds, Shyamalan tries to create suspense without much really going on (not as good as The Birds obviously). Even though this film has some stupid, pointless sub-plots (love story was executed poorly), some questionable dialogue at times, and universally seen as an underwhelming conclusion, I can truthfully say I'm one of the few that enjoyed the film, and I don't care who knows it.
