I admit it...I'm a sucker for a Hanks film...I can't help it. His charm is ALMOST reminiscent of the great James Stewart, he has mastered the "twinkle-in-the-eye" and the lovably warm goofy smile with ease...both characteristics that may have won me over here...Not to mention the fact that there is a very unique, camera friendly canine involved (dogs automatically earn points in my rating system - and this one earns points for achieving a "character-arc")
Sure, it's not perfect...but the early scenes between Hanks & Hooch "getting to used to each other" are hilarious, and somehow the two manage to have screen chemistry during the stakeout scene - not an easy task for an actor (or a writer, to create something interesting occurring between a man and a dog stuck in a car for hours...) You can't help but grow fond of the two of them, and by the conclusion you're feeling something you didn't expect.
