Burn After Reading

Black Humor Done Right
LeopardExplosion - wrote on 09/13/08

Ah, finally. Burn After Reading has hit the cineplex, and already it is stirring great attention. Was it the premiere at TIFF?(Toronto International Film Festival) Or was everybody waiting for the Coen Brothers to show their newest addition to their line of comedic masterpieces. I sure as hell couldn't wait. And I got what I wanted and more.

Sure is no 'The Big Lebowski' that's for sure, that doesn't mean it isn't a good movie. I thought it was terrific, seeing as it was much better than 'The Ladykillers' and 'Intolerable Cruelty.' Though you must find something in the heart of the characters while viewing the movie. No one creates characters like The Coens, and even with sometimes a misleading plot, the movie carries on from Pitt, Malcovich, Mcdormand, Simmons, and Clooney's performances. Hell, all of them did great.

An ex-C.I.A member Osborne Cox, decides to write his very own book, but when Hard Bodies gym employees Chad and Linda stumble upon a disc full of 'intelligent shit' they decide to blackmail the man in order for Frances Mcdormand's Linda to fulfill her plastic surgeries. Of course this sets other characters into action, and as soon as the two take action in finding the highest bidder for this info, all the characters find something in the plot. Though at some points the screwball and slapstick humor stands out, and the plot feels stiff, Like I said previously, the characters can go a whole Coen Brothers movie and be able to carry their weight.

Cons? Short movie. Short.Short.Short. 96 Minutes. : ( Wish we saw more, but with what I've seen, Another good black comedy from the ultimate Coens.

FINAL SCORE :::: 77% ::::
