ROSEBUD...The one word that to this day has mystified generations of movie watchers. And, of course, Orson Welles. His acting and directing is brilliant. But the stars of the movie are Greg Toland's beautiful cinematography and Bernard Herrmann's score. Toland wasn't the first to use deep focus in his shots, but he was the first to use it in this capacity. And Herrmann, who would go on to do more famous score like The Day the Earth Stood Still and Psycho, got his start with this film. And maybe even more fascinating than the movie itself is the story behind it. Kane basically made a movie about media conglomerate, William Randolph Hearst. If you buy the DVD disc two has the documentary The Battle Over Citizen Kane.
