When a movie leaves you in such a state of awe and astonishment as Gravity left me, you can't help but marvel at these extremely talented people who came together and made not only entertainment, but an immersive experience for a person.
I have been a follower of Alfonso Cuarón's films since the third Harry Potter, and I can now say wholeheartedly that this is the peak of his triumphant career.
Gravity was the most ecstatic, visually awe-inspiring film I've seen so far his year.
The direction is above all the strongest feature, without a doubt. The work that was put into creating such mind-blowing scenes of debris, shuttles, the hovering effect or simple emptiness was beautiful.
Shots would often go on for minutes without a single cut, wonderfully floating with our characters in the deep and lonely setting of space.
Just like in Children of Men or Harry Potter 3, Cuarón knew what to emphasize to equalize both the acting and the direction.
Sandra Bullock delivers an Oscar-worthy performance in her best role since… ever. I've never particularly appreciated her roles, but I sympathized with her superbly-developed and fragile character in this movie completely. Her dialogue with George Clooney wasn't exactly the best, but it was real and personal, that's what matters.
What made me pity and show the most interest in Dr. Stone the was the fact that something dramatic happened to her in the past. It's nothing new or what we haven't seen before, but the sheer power of her telling this story at her most frightful made my jaw almost drop.
It gave the perfect quantity of personality and dramatic weight to make us care for them and want them to get home, wherever theirs was.
Granted, most of Clooney's lines are one-liners and jokes, but it bounced well in the cold space between him and his astronaut colleague.
The editing and sound were pristine, it looks and sounds great. It was also mentioned at the beginning that space has no ability to carry sound, this is underlined in the film, as we only hear muted or muffled sounds. I applaud the editor.
It may well have the best visual effects I've ever seen. Saying that may seem skeptical, but if a movie makes you think it's space and not a green screen, then the team has done their job.
It will probably be viewed as our generation's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Hold your breath and count to the end, because Gravity is a visual journey that creates a mind-blowing, expansive atmosphere and absorbs you into it, as if it were space.
