Plays Like Sequel Rather Than Remake

I wanted something new and not just a modern re-hash of the old. Here was a chance to start fresh with a completely different take, but instead we are left with no added backstory and some tired genre moments. However, taking this in as another sequel, I would consider this the best in the series since the fourth film. It pays homage to the first four films. It has great, brutal kills. Jason is actually menacing again and the whole thing has some camp to it. This feels more like a "same old" sequel rather than a full on redo. Have we been here and done it before? Yes. But has it been this good in a long time? No. Slasher fans and others will find some things in here to like. As a whole, it's not very good. But it does deliver a somewhat classic slasher feel and, for the most part, it works.
