With this sequel, we get more backstory on the slasher Crowley, more outlandish gory kills, and more cameos. What's missing this time is most of the fun that I had watching the original. Granted, it does have many noteworthy moments for genre fans, but there is a serious lack of laughs. One of the main strengths of the first was the likable characters and the comedy between them. That is almost non-existant here. The only things keeping 'Hatchet II' above mediocrity, for me, is the great flashback sequence explaining more of Crowley's origin, and the slam-bang finale that replicates some of that fun I had with the first.
