One of the Best 'Man-In-Drag' Comedies

One out of maybe three times I can recall where the 'man-in-drag' story actually works. It's not wacky fun like 'Some Like It Hot', nor is it a one man comedic show like 'Mrs. Doubtfire'. 'Tootsie' manages to find a good balance between what worked in both of these films. The characters and situations are well written and performed. Everyone delivers solid jokes and none of them feel too cliche for this type of story. Sure, you have the inevitable scenes involving men falling for the main character, him going after a woman of his own, and the 'big reveal' moment. These scenes don't feel as forced or cliche and a few of them are funny. The only part that bothers me is the rushed resolution. A quick, lackluster conclusion following a memorable reveal. There's still plenty of good laughs to be had. A solid comedy overall.
