This is a well directed remake. It manages to be reminiscent of the original Evil Dead, while cutting out it's own path. And 'cutting' is what it does best. There is copious amounts of blood/gore present and all of it looks painful. Most all of the violence is sick, dirty, wince-inducing stuff. Despite the initial plot and characters being completely cliche riddled fare, there are a handful of surprises. The experience was enjoyable, because of all the instant crowd reaction. The film perfectly strides the line of being fun and crazy, while maintaining a tense and grueling atmosphere.
