'Mud' is a southern lesson in growing pains that presents themes of friendship, trust, and heart over mind. There is a complete feeling of authenticity to this film, from the writing and acting, to the setting, and down to the complexity of thoughts and emotions from it's main character. Tye Sheridan is wholly believable as a young teen seeking that adult recognition. The film is a slow burn, whose underlying mysteries grow with tensity until the finale. I like how each character's layers are revealed over time. There is never a sense of right or wrong, but of personal choice.
