An Experience of Shear Total Enjoyment

From watching the trailers, I expected massive action and spectacle. And you know what? I got exactly that on the highest level. 'Pacific Rim' has given me the most fun 'big summer movie' experiences I've had all year. Here the action and CG effects are executed masterfully. Each fight is a rollicking, cheer-worthy effort. I was on edge in anticipation and my excitement was sustained through the whole film. The meticulous attention to detail in the effects work gives the Kaiju, Jaegers, and their real-world surroundings a sense of size and weight. Obviously, these areas are where I give the highest praise, but the rest is no less than par. I feel that the story and human characters are serviceable for what type of film this is. They are in no way bad. I was still entertained with all of the non-battle scenes. Not even close to the level of bad writing and annoyance of say the 'Transformers' trilogy. But the main positive is that I had a total blast watching this film. It's every bit the fulfilling experience I was hoping to see.
