'Ender's Game' is smarter than the average sci-fi. This military based film is entirely focused on strategy. There is a central theme of choices faced when preparing to eradicate one's enemy that is sought through to the end. The emotional aspects of the main character could've been explored more. This area of the film felt predictable, but the warfare didn't. The in-battle strategizing mixed with awesome effects creates situations of both intrigue and spectacle. The finale is surprising in it's resolution. It's not the typical 'happy victory' one would assume. Having not read the popular novel it is based on, I cannot say how it compares. I found the experience satisfying in ways I would not have expected.
