'Frozen' Is Almost Solid As Ice

'Frozen' is Disney's latest non-Pixar outing. All of the Disney animation criteria can be checked off the list for this entry: impressive visuals and music, good comedic moments, upbeat characters, fairy tale setting, complete kid friendly atmosphere. Every aspect is done very well. Still, I didn't find this affair as enjoyable as the most recent Disney animations (Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph). The main problem being the story. I feel it's too predictable and uninspired, given the amount of potential to be had with the premise. Granted, there is an attempt to subvert tired Disney tropes in the third act, but even those small 'twists' are easily foreseen. The relationship of the two sisters is underdeveloped and doesn't generate the amount of heart that is strived for. Despite this flaw, the rest is top notch. Most noteworthy are the female vocal talents. Idina Menzel sings the hell out of the song 'Let it Go'. It's worth a 'Best Song' award, in my ears. Also worth mentioning is the comedic character of Olaf. The cute looking snowman provides some solid jokes. 'Frozen's minor shortcomings don't hamper what I consider an all-around fine animation. It's entertaining for all ages and that's really what matters.
