'Begin Again' has a premise that could've easily turned into a fluffy predictable story. Thankfully, the outcome is the opposite. Many scenes bypass instances for usual cliches. There is much more emotional involvement with the characters, most of which comes out in the music. The movie captures the essence of songwriting. The situations that inspire the songs within the film come from an honest place. Those songs also happen to be terrific! The two main characters (played by Ruffalo and Knightley) have a wonderful shared creative experience. This brings them both out of their current ruts in life and reinvigorates them towards happiness. It left me with a warmhearted feeling of ease and a want for upbeat musical fun. An enjoyable watch for anyone (especially musicians). What a pleasant surprise!
