Controversy Warranted?

'The Interview' is nothing worth getting up in arms over. It's every bit the silly farce that I think the majority of us knew it would be. There's no agenda to the film outside of being funny and crass. The story is as basic and straight-forward as the trailer makes it out to be. Franco hams it up with an entertaining eccentric performance and Rogen does his usual thing well. They make a good team, as always. The most surprising bits come from the wacky, yet humanizing portrayal of Kim Jong-Un by Randall Park. He's not made out to be a complete villain and there is some sympathy beneath the facade. Different areas of media and political satire are brought up, but never fully realized. It's still nice to see those moments amidst the many dick and poop jokes. There's plenty of laughs to be had, nonetheless. The film manages to ride the line between playing it safe and being full-on ballsy.
