Tired of 'Ted'

'Ted 2' is a lazy sequel. There's a bland 'same-ness' to this whole endeavor. I was not a fan of the first 'Ted'. I felt it was a solid premise that had too many flat gags. Yet, I still had a few good laughs with it. This sequel is a repeat of that, but with a weaker story construct and even weaker jokes. I criticized 'Ted' for being too similar to an episode of the very uneven 'Family Guy'. That criticism more properly defines the plot of 'Ted 2'. It moves from one thing to the next, only being held together by this background idea of Ted fighting the courts on the issue of whether or not he should have human rights. This is an interesting concept that could've been explored much further in it's political and satirical agenda. Instead, we are sidetracked by lots of meandering. It leads to a finale that repeats the finale of the first in a boring manner. The multiple false endings felt tacked onto an already overlong film. All of this would be a little tolerable if the movie was funny. It's not. The humor is just so lame. It's almost as if no effort was put into the writing. It's all made up of many pointless references, awkward silences, excessive pot smoking, uninspired gross-out/sexual gags, and rehashed jokes from 'Family Guy' and other sources. Most of the punchlines were completely predictable. They were practically telegraphed. I barely laughed at all. This is a movie made for 11 year-olds who have never seen an R-rated comedy before. Total skip.
