The Bipolar Rollercoaster

'Infinitely Polar Bear' is an accurate representation of manic-depression (or bipolar disorder). It's very easy to tell that the writer/director based this off her own real life experiences. She uses those struggles to manifest a raw, and sweet, portrait of a broken family dynamic. The whole movie is controlled by these rampant emotions of the characters, mostly those of the father. His erratic behavior causes emotional conflict between him and his children and wife. Everyone is pulled along on his rollercoaster ride without choice. There's also the added stress of a poor financial situation. Through it all they still manage' thanks to the father's perseverance and the hope his daughters instill in him. This is the entirety of the story. It's an incapsulate of a certain period of hardship. The constant emotional highs and lows of the characters dictate the whole film. It presents a realistically endearing quality to the piece. Ruffalo gives a terrific performance. I've seen individuals with this condition act in the same manner.
