Fun & Excitement: Possible

'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation' continues the strong upward climb from the previous sequel 'Ghost Protocol'. I loved the last entry for it's back-to-basics spy ensemble piece that also ratcheted up the action and excitement. The same can be said for this one, and more so. We start off with a set-piece of amazing stunt work and from there on it's a smooth rush through all the things that make this series great. Returning hallmarks are amplified with more focus. Not a second of screen time is wasted. The plot advances in every scene. It's full of intrigue, nefarious dealings, globe-spanning locations, and a character who's alliance remains a mystery. None of this becomes convoluted in the slightest. Constant turns around every corner are met with surprise, none of which derail basic logic in story structure. It's all streamlined to a fine point. Every new dire situation increases tensity regarding both the espionage and the death-defying acts. I felt seat gripping excitement during all the action scenes. They are so well executed. This is the kind of involuntary pleasing aesthetic that so many action movies are missing nowadays. As in 'Ghost Protocol', there's an attempt to humanize Ethan Hunt. He's more susceptible to the violence now. You feel his struggle and see his shock during many close-calls. Team emphasis also remains prevalent. All of the actors make a great unit once again. Each of their characters has a purpose and their own moments in the spotlight. There's enough to go around. I am beyond satisfied with this latest entry into one of my favorite franchises. 'Rogue Nation' has everything you want and delivers it in the most fun and easy way possible. It was an absolute blast!
