New Ideas, Shaky Execution

The latest DC animation brings us a completely different Justice League than we've come to know. This alternate reality version of the team is interesting, but not the most memorable. The plot is decent. There's a small mystery to sort out in the light of superhero-ing issues. The themes of the story are greater than the story itself. Such powerful heroes wanting to help humanity but being careless in the process is a great thematic concept that is explored only to a certain extent. The resolution focused more on the surprise twist and big action, while the big ideas were sidelined. Much time is devoted to learning the origins of the new JL. It takes away from the plot at hand. I didn't think these new iterations of the characters had enough of a personality to warrant their alternate existence. Their backstories were creative, though. There's enough good ideas and awesome action here to satisfy any DC fans. It just left me wanting a little more. Still loads better than the four most recent DC animated films.
