An Odd Failure

'Pan' is the unnecessary origin story of the beloved fantasy character Peter Pan. There's much room for creative output... and the filmmakers wasted all of that space. This story just flat out sucks! Peter begins as an orphan in England during WWI. He is then abducted into Neverland where he meets other characters from his original story for the first time. They are all miscast and overacted. They continuously run from pirates, led by Jackman's awful Blackbeard, and the most fake looking CG creations I've seen in a big-budget production since the beginning of the 2000's. The entire movie looks green screen'ed. This lame adventure covers the same ground seen in ANY fantasy film ever and it accomplishes very little by the end. The only purpose this film seems to have is for the characters make references to the events of the original Peter Pan story. The ending is capped off with them winking at their inevitable fates of becoming enemies, in a half-hearted joking manner. The explanation of their future opposition would've made for a more interesting narrative than this heap. With a huge list of very odd writing/directing choices, including the random chanting of Nirvana and Ramones lyrics (WTF?), this is one vastly weird and underwhelming big studio production that fails on almost every level.
