'Sleeping with Other People' is a smart romantic comedy. It's equal parts rom-com and sex comedy. This mostly dialogue driven piece shares as much insight into relationships as it does sexual acts. There's great truths found in the hilariously filthy sex advice. The emotional scenes are just as honest. The two leads are so well written and acted that their growing relationship is immediately worth investing. Later scenes exude strong longing between the pair. Their hesitation for not being together is believable. One has anxiety over a past love, and the other cannot end what they start. It's these positives that make me forgiving of a couple of forcibly cliche rom-com resolutions in the third act. This is one of a rare breed that manages to be simultaneously funny, raunchy, thoughtful, and touching.
