Of the very few modern Shakespeare retellings I've seen, this is the most memorable. Shakespeare dialogue is hard to overcome for those who aren't keen to hearing it. This film rides that barrier by showing as much of the story as possible through striking visuals. I wasn't familiar with this particular narrative, but I felt like I got at least half of the details without the dialogue. I admired this different approach to the material. It offered something new, trying to become a more visceral experience while staying true to the original text. You could tell the director had a firm hold on his singular vision. It worked enough, for me.
