A Boy/Girl Story

'The Danish Girl' tackles a subject rarely seen in this kind of dramatic format. The film builds up a deep swell between it's main characters. We understand the inner complexities of this man's struggle with personal identity, as well as the heartbreak and loving acceptance of his wife. Redmayme brings his best, accurately detailing the internalized confusion of his changing state and the affect the judgement of the outside world brings on him. Vikander's performance resonated most with me. She captures all of the hardship one would endure in this unique situation. The love they have for each other is still present, but it's not the same love they had in the beginning. Her journey is a little more involving than his, from the standpoint of the story. Their relationship is handled beautifully, even if some scenes stand just outside the realm of melodrama. I still found the resolution to be emotionally satifying.
