De Niro Gets 'Dirty'

'Dirty Grandpa' is one comedy that accurately represents it's title. The grandpa in question is a uncommonly loose De Niro. He and Efron make a good comedy duo, with Efron being the straight man to De Niro's vulgar extremities. The movie does try too hard to push the sexually explicit dialogue. There's much repetitiveness. That said, I did have some laughs. A few of the side characters go off on random tangents that got old over time. One major flaw that stops the movie in it's tracks is the over-long resolution. The story took a backseat to the shenanigans up until this point, which made the final act have to slow to a crawl while wrapping up every character's stilted relationships with one another. The storytelling isn't efficient at all. I didn't have a fun sense of enjoyment throughout, despite the upbeat nature, but I did laugh just barely enough to warrant a rental to anyone who likes this sort of comedy. Just don't expect much.
