Unlucky 'Intruders'

'Intruders' starts on solid ground. We get a quick setup to our female lead and her at-home struggles. It's easy to invest in her eventual survival situation in just a couple of scenes, given this is somewhat under the "home invasion" category of thrillers. Beyond this point is where the movie flips that expectation around 180 degrees, literally. She turns the tables on her intruders completely, becoming the keeper of their demise almost in an instant. This is brought about through a twist involving her past. The reasoning behind the initial turn of events becomes more muddled with progression. It raises more questions about our female protagonist than it answers. In fact, she doesn't feel like the protagonist at all beyond this point. I'm left confused as to her motives and wondering if I want to continue to see any of these people survive a situation that lost any of it's tensity at the beginning. After she takes control the movie goes nowhere interesting. The whole thing feels unconventional to a fault. I appreciate the complete unpredictability, but I lost all investment through the questionable actions early on.
